Train stops between Ulan-Bator and Moscow


The information below comes from our Trailblazer guide to the Trans-Siberian Railway and I will add to it as I learn more about these cities. On consideration of the stops along the route and our schedule, we will be stopping at Krasnoyarsk and Yekaterinberg along the route between Ulan-Bator and Moscow.

Krasnoyarsk

Where
Krasnoyarsk, Siberian Russia. 4098km and 60-96 hours from Moscow, 42 hours from Ulan-Bator. Pleasantly located within hills, river and cliffs

What
historical sites cathedral, catholic church museums Museum of Regional Studies (ethnographic section a “must-see”), Natural History Museum (with interactive display), Museum of Culture and History (modern artists’ exhibits, Lenin’s diaries and effects, steamship Lenin was sent to exile in, as well as a communist guide to New York).

Yekaterinberg

Where
Yekaterinberg, European Russia. 1816km and 29 hours from Moscow, 33 hours from Krasnoyarsk.

Historical site of murders of Russian royal family (Romanovs) during Russian Civil War and crash of American U2 observation plane piloted by Gary Powers during Cold War. Museums include: Local History Museum (with information on Romanov murders), Military Museum (with information on U2 crash/ Gary Powers’ trial), Railway History Museum, Metenkov House Museum of Photography. Theatre in form of Opera and Ballet theatre.
